For Tammy Paxton, the opportunity of a lifetime came just over a month ago when she, along with Jo Ann Baker, were appointed to serve on national subcommittees by the NLNAC.

Paxton, the Owens Campus Nursing Department Chairperson, applied for the NLNAC (National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission) and was one of just 42 educators who were selected among hundreds of hopefuls. Baker is the Nursing Department Chairperson at Delaware Tech’s Terry Campus. Both were picked based on their expertise, experience, and geographical location.

Paxton has been involved with the NLNAC before, however, serving as a site visitor to Associate Degree colleges for the program since 2004 and being on its Education Review Panel since 2010.

As the 2012 spring semester at Delaware Tech comes to an end, the Lady Roadrunners have not quite finished what they started.

The team’s record was 35-3.

In the spring semester of 2012, 13 individuals from different backgrounds, majors, and races came together under the Study Abroad program at Delaware Tech to travel to Russia.

Robert Bates, the International Education Coordinator at Owen’s Campus, was also the instructor who planned and led the Russia trip. This was Bates’ fourth time traveling to Russia and he enjoys it every time.

Owens Campus’ Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) club lends its hand to OneSight by collecting eyeglass frames from students.

OneSight is a group of vision care organizations devoted to offering healthy vision, eyewear and sun protection to those in need worldwide.

Since 1988, OneSight’s generous efforts have delivered free vision care and eyewear to over eight million people, and continue to restore vision to people suffering from poor vision.

The Blood Bank of Delmarva and MALTA (Medical Assistant Laboratory Technician Association) held a blood drive at the Owens Campus on April 18.

The Carter Partnership building saw plenty of donors ready to give blood and help the 20,000 patients that will need blood transfusions this year, according to the Blood Bank of Delmarva.

Photography students at Del Tech showed off their photos at an exhibit on May 2.

Photography instructor Keith Mosher said there was good feedback from faculty and the approximately 100 people that attended the exhibit.

“A lot of people gave feedback, even if they may not have shown up during the exhibit,” Mosher said. “They gave comments and said everything looked good.”

Delaware Tech students took a trip to Washington, DC on March 9 to explore the Newseum.

The Newseum displays historic artifacts, pictures, and movies, along with current technology used in today’s journalism field.

Communications photography instructor Keith Mosher said he planned the trip to give students more exposure to things happening in the communications field, other than just what they get at Del Tech.
